BOTOX® and Dysport are neuromodulators. They are injected using a small needle directly into the muscle that causes the wrinkle. When these products are injected into the muscle, the nerve impulse is blocked from reaching that targeted area. As a result, the muscle is weakened and the skin that overlays that muscles relaxes to the point where the wrinkles gradually soften up and often times disappear all together. Of all the procedures offered for the reduction of wrinkles, utilizing neuromodulators is one of the safest out there. For the past 10 years Botox has been used for wrinkle therapy. More recently Jeuveau has been FDA approved for cosmetic use to compete directly with Botox. Patients are typically able to return to their daily routine immediately after the treatment. There is an initial sting with the injection, but there is usually no discomfort after. The use of medications like Aspirin or Ibuprofen for at least 1 week after BOTOX® or Dysport treatments is to be avoided
Who is a candidate?
Neuromodulator injections are for both men and women that are looking to achieve or retain their youthful appearance.
