The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

Treatment can only be administered by a KYBELLA®-trained healthcare specialist, which all GLO injectors are.
At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your injector will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA® treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. In our experience most clients receive 3 treatments.

Yes, KYBELLA® provides a permanent solution for reducing submental fat. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are permanently eliminated and cannot store or accumulate fat again. However, maintaining healthy habits and a stable weight is essential to preserve the results.
To prepare for a KYBELLA® treatment, avoid taking blood thinners, anti-inflammatory medications, and supplements like fish oil and vitamin E at least one week before the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising. It’s also recommended to avoid alcohol and smoking before the treatment. We will give you specific pre-treatment instructions based on your medical history and current medications.
After a KYBELLA® treatment, you may experience swelling, bruising, and tenderness under the chin, which are normal and expected reactions. Applying ice packs and having over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage any discomfort. Most patients can carry on with normal activities within a day or two, but it’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days to minimize swelling. We will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
