BOTOX® and Dysport are neuromodulators. They are injected using a small needle directly into the muscle that causes the wrinkle. When these products are injected into the muscle, the nerve impulse is blocked from reaching that targeted area. As a result, the muscle is weakened and the skin that overlays the muscles relaxes to the point where the wrinkles gradually soften up and oftentimes disappear all together. The effects of BOTOX® and Dysport® often last between 3 to 6 months. However, this can also depend based on individual factors such as metabolism, the area treated, and the dosage used.
Results from BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments can usually be seen within 3 to 5 days, with full effects becoming visible after about 2 weeks.
During the treatment, a series of minute injections will be done to administer BOTOX® or Dysport® into the targeted muscles. The procedure usually just takes about 10 to 20 minutes and involves minimal discomfort.
Yes, you can go back to your normal activities immediately after the treatment. However, it is strongly advised to avoid strenuous exercise, lying down, or touching or rubbing the treated areas for at least 4 hours post-treatment.
Common side effects are temporary redness, puffiness, or bruising at the injection site. Some people may experience headaches or a slight drooping of the eyelids, which usually resolves within a few days.

Of all the procedures offered for the reduction of wrinkles, utilizing neuromodulators is one of the safest out there. For the past 10 years, Botox has been used for wrinkle therapy. More recently, Jeuveau has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use to compete directly with Botox. Patients are typically able to return to their daily routine immediately after the treatment. There is an initial sting with the injection, but there is usually no discomfort after. The use of medications like Aspirin or Ibuprofen for at least 1 week after BOTOX® or Dysport treatments is to be avoided
